Dedicated to Backcountry Safety
Selkirk Snowcat Skiing is an active member of HeliCat Canada. HCC members strive to achieve the highest standards of professionalism and safety in the helicopter and snowcat skiing industry. All our guides are trained and certified through the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA), the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) and or the Canadian Ski Guide Association (CSGA).
Every guest is equipped with a radio, pack with probe and shovel, and an avalanche transceiver. Before heading out on their first day, guests receive detailed instruction how the equipment works and practice search and rescue techniques.
Each group skis with a dedicated lead and tail guide. All our guides are experienced professionals with training in avalanche hazard forecasting, snow and weather analysis, emergency first aid, mountain rescue, and ski instruction techniques.
In the rare occurrence of injury, most can be handled on-site with the equipment our guides carry in their packs. The snowcat carries additional equipment including AED, oxygen, a toboggan, spinal board, and extra probes, skis and poles.
There is continuous radio communication and check-ins between the guides, snowcat drivers, the lodge and our office in Meadow Creek.
In the event of a mechanical breakdown, we have a spare third snowcat at the lodge on standby.
